Valentin Fougeray est un artiste visuel et photographe dont la pratique explore un langage plastique où la couleur tient lieu de vocabulaire. Après une formation initiale en architecture, il étudie la photographie à l’école Gobelins, à Paris.
Ses premiers travaux, à l’instar de la série Balance, s’appuyaient sur la construction d’installations éphémères, explorant une matérialité ambiguë qui dessinait la frontière entre le tangible et l’imaginaire. Progressivement, son approche évolue vers une écriture plus abstraite, qui privilégie l’évocation à la description.
En 2023, il conçoit Chantal, une série hommage à sa grand-mère maternelle atteinte de la maladie d’Alzheimer. Cette figure intime devient le point de départ d’une méditation visuelle sur la mémoire, la disparition et le souvenir. À travers des compositions mêlant flous colorés et fleurs vibrantes, presque évanescentes, Valentin Fougeray tente de saisir ce qui s’efface, d’en capter l’écho sensible. Il cherche ainsi à établir une résonance émotionnelle, à semer chez le spectateur les graines d’une évocation personnelle, de souvenirs parfois enfouis.
Affranchi des codes documentaires, il conçoit la photographie comme un espace poétique, sculptural et sensoriel. L’absence de sujet stable dans ses images laisse place à une appropriation libre et intime, où la couleur et les formes deviennent des vecteurs d’évocation.
Rien n’est figé ni certain : chaque image ouvre une brèche vers l’imaginaire, un souvenir fragile, une réminiscence flottante. C’est ainsi que l’artiste choisit d’habiter l’oubli. À travers une approche sensible et ouverte, Valentin Fougeray interroge notre manière d’être au monde — entre perception, mémoire et émotion — et nous invite à une présence intuitive, flottante et profondément humaine.

Valentin Fougeray is a visual artist and photographer whose practice explores a plastic language in which color serves as vocabulary. After an initial education in architecture, he studied photography at Gobelins School in Paris.
His early works, such as the Balance series, were based on the construction of ephemeral installations that explored an ambiguous materiality, tracing the boundary between the tangible and the imaginary. Over time, his approach evolved toward a more abstract form of expression, favoring evocation over description.
In 2023, he created Chantal, a series paying tribute to his maternal grandmother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. This intimate figure became the starting point for a visual meditation on memory, disappearance, and remembrance. Through compositions blending colored blurs and vibrant, almost evanescent flowers, Valentin Fougeray seeks to capture what is fading — to grasp its sensitive echo. He thus aims to establish an emotional resonance, sowing in the viewer the seeds of personal evocation, of memories sometimes long buried.
Free from documentary codes, he conceives photography as a poetic, sculptural, and sensory space. The absence of a stable subject in his images allows for a free and intimate appropriation, where color and form become vehicles of evocation.
Nothing is fixed or certain: each image opens a breach into the imagination, a fragile memory, a drifting reminiscence. In this way, the artist chooses to inhabit oblivion. Through a sensitive and open approach, Valentin Fougeray questions our way of being in the world — between perception, memory, and emotion — inviting us to an intuitive, floating, and profoundly human presence.
